So I'm setting up safety stations around our new workshop and I've hit a bit of a decision paralysis. We work on heavy equipment and use a ton of different fluids, everything from engine oil and hydraulic fluid to brake cleaner and various solvents. I know the general rule is to match your spill kit to the type of fluid you're handling, but I'm wondering if I'm overcomplicating things by thinking I need multiple specialized kits. I've been looking at some options and noticed that oil-only kits have hydrophobic absorbents that repel water, which is great for outdoor spills or oily water situations, but we're indoors 99% of the time so that doesn't really matter for us. Chemical kits on the other hand have more aggressive absorbents that can handle acids and solvents, but they're more expensive and I'm not sure if they're overkill for what we do. Part of me wants to just get universal kits that can handle everything and call it a day, but another part worries that universal means it doesn't do any one thing particularly well. I came across a reliable spill kits manufacturer in Dubai that offers all three types and I'm leaning toward getting a couple of chemical kits for our main workshop area since we do use some aggressive cleaners, and then oil-only kits for the service bay where we do oil changes. Has anyone else gone with a mixed approach like this or do you just standardize on one type across the whole facility? I don't want to end up with the wrong kit when something actually happens.
